The girls' bathroom has been plagued with ‘graffiti’ for a few years now with writing differentiating from rude, hurtful comments about other unsuspecting girls, such as calling them profanities, and ‘couple' names encased in hearts.

This matter has not been ignored or brushed over, however, as the school’s staff has been diligently painting over such writing and the deputy head teacher has even addressed the matter to the entirety of the girls in our secondary portion of the school. On the positive side, many girls volunteered to scrub the ink off the stalls so a fresh coat of paint could cover the graffiti remnants.

Despite this, however, covering the graffiti twice and condemning it, the matter hasn’t stopped completely and they are still fighting the bathroom stalls for dominance, although they are much more scarce and the harsher ones have now been crossed over so they are indecipherable.

A student commented, “ It's great that there’s only a little bit of ink marks on the stalls now and the school tried their hardest to stop this but it still exists. I, personally, don’t care or mind about people having fun but being mean to others isn’t right. It is horrible and if you were in that situation you wouldn’t like it so why do people do it to others? It’s also school property and if we wouldn’t write on the walls of our house why is it being done at school? I think the main thing that should be changed is the girl-on-girl hate that a few people are guilty of. It’s more than just vandalism and we should all love each other. Don’t get me wrong though, most of the girls here are really nice but the problem is just when some people do stuff they think is funny behind someone’s back.”

In conclusion, we as a whole, as students, should try to be more considerate of our surroundings ,school property and think before we say or do something hurtful towards another human being. We should behave in a way we would like to be treated. I am aware that the majority of people don’t act negatively towards their peers and most of such behaviour is unintentional or the implications of it were unknown to the person in question. The purpose of this article is to create awareness to vandalism and how hurtful it can be and to help prevent it in the future.
