Champions Hornchurch have had a stunning season all year, being crowned champions before the season even ended however Waltham Abbey began to make AFC Hornchurch seem relegation-worthy rather than champions. First place Hornchurch took the lead on the stroke of half time through a Chris Assombalonga header, converted from a superb cross from Jed Chouman however Darelle Russell cut these celebrations short, scoring two goals in nine minutes just after the second half started. The first of these goals was a low shot into the corner by Russell, catching Hornchurch cold. The second goal, shortly after, happened through Sam Mott tipping over a free-kick on 51 minutes, but was beaten for a second time soon after as Russell netted his second. Hornchurch made a triple change on 63 minutes, with Nathan Livings, Leon McKenzie and Fairweather-Johnson replacing Hogan, Assombalonga and Oluwatimilehin. Shortly after, Fairweather-Johnson had an effort tipped over by Page, before Warner’s attempt from the resulting corner was blocked by the Abbey defence. The corner resulted in nothing however Hornchurch were back on level terms five minutes from time when Fairweather-Johnson sidefooted home from McKenzie’s lay-off at a free-kick leaving the final score at 2-2. The attendance was 124 and both teams walked away from the match with a point each.
