Every year at Woodford County High School, responsibilities are handed down to the next generation through a formal assembly in front of the whole school. This assembly consists of emotional speeches, gift exchanges, and sweet but sorrow farewells. It "marks the dawn of a new era", says Tayyibah (new Vice Captain of Highams).

This year, on Wednesday the 25th of April, the preceding Captains handed over their positions to the current generation through a symbolic seat-switch on stage. The new House Heads and Vices include: Harleen (Head of Highams), Tayyibah (Vice), Sophia (Head of Newton), Sharmeen (Vice), Arighni (Head of Repton), Simran (Vice), Nikita (Head of Warner), and Mahnoor (Vice). The girls are very excited to begin their new roles and have already begun to plan for House Drama productions, which will take place in the next academic year.

During the handover assembly, all students looked perfectly professional in their black-and-white formal clothing as they walked through the hall and climbed the large stage steps. One-by-one, they were called up to present their parting gifts to the preceding head or vice, and to take their place on stage after wishing them luck.

Other roles of responsibility that were handed down during the assembly were the roles of Silver Badges, School Council, Games Captains, and Form Prefects. The school gained a new set of responsible representatives who are very committed to their roles, having gone through applications and interviews to get them. The route to responsibility and leadership is not an easy one and the girls are commended for being able to succeed in their individual roles.

As the new Head Girl of Woodford put it, the current year thirteens left a "legacy" that the new generation hopes to live up to and perhaps even exceed with their great enthusiasm and keenness to participate in House events so early on in their Captainships! One can only wait and see the outcome and effect of the new Captains.
