Scout groups from across the country gathered on the 3rd of March at Waterloo Station to begin Monopoly run 2018.

Monopoly Run is an annual scout event where teams of Scouts and Explorer Scouts are put into leagues of 5-6 teams and compete against each other by travelling around London using any method of transport to visit all the real-life locations on the Monopoly board. While going around, teams check in at the various landmarks where like the board game they either buy the property or have to pay rent if already bought, all while finding random chance and community chest cards and passing “go” to collect £200. At the end of the day, the teams are fined for the spots they didn’t visit and earn money from selling the spots they bought. The final winner is the team that ends up with the most money out of all the teams.

This year had a very large turnout with over 200 teams participating in the event. Team Octopus of Petersham and Ham Sea Scouts came 1st with a very impressive £10,938.

Local Scout Group 1st Hainault had their best ever showing in the event coming a very respectable 5th overall, Mark Carter Group Scout Leader was part of the team and had this to say about the teams efforts on the day: “An excellent effort by everyone involved both on the day and on the lead up despite the weather conditions and we look forward to a repeat success next year with hopefully an even better final position for all the teams at 1st Hainault.”
