‘The beast from the east’ has hit the uk causing traffic, train and flight delays and cancellations and the heavy snow showers have also caused many schools to close in redbridge, such as Chadwell Heath Academy, Mayfield School and Seven Kings primary school and secondary school along with many more to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The snow showers began on Monday but were only mild, since then they have become extremely heavy.

Although snow looks beautiful and has its fun side it is also very dangerous. It is easy to slip while walking in the snow if the right shoes are not worn, there have been multiple injuries caused by slipping on the snow in these past few days. “I was just walking to school, there was a puddle of ice on the ground that I did not see and I slipped and fell, I laughed it off but it did hurt so please be careful when out in the snow,” exclaimed school boy Asad.

Another dangerous incident that can be caused by frozen water is trying to walk on frozen ponds or lakes, it’s silly, I mean who would think that’s a good idea? Well people do and have had near death experiences because of it. One teenage boy was walking on a lake in his local park when the ice began to crack... “I was in the middle of the lake and the ice around me began to crack, I started to sprint off the frozen lake but the ice was cracking fast, soon there was a hole below me and I was suddenly under freezing cold water, I couldn’t feel a thing. I woke up in a hospital bed a few hours later,” the young boy said. He is left traumatised after the petrifying event and urges everyone to stay off of frozen lakes and ponds.

Stay safe and stay warm!
