History is one of those subjects that I feel is greatly overlooked, not to mention most people have the perception that history is the driest subject out of all of them. However, I feel quite differently and want to inform some people why History is actually not that bad even though it is mainly based upon the dead. I feel the aspects of the multi-cultural topics in History can provide you with a wide insight on not just how British history works but also American and Chinese as well as ancient, medieval and modern history which in my opinion are intriguing sub-topics in the historical world. In my opinion History as a degree in university would be very insightful as I feel that it is one of the most important subjects out there because of the many interpretations it gives us about prominent events to ensure History isn't completely black and white; you have the choice to decide what you believe is right or wrong. I have always felt that History is one of those subjects that not only teaches us about how the world once was but also opens our eyes about how far we've come through the centuries and as a result who we are today. Yes, there are many comparisons made between the world today and how it was back then but what some people forget are the sheer similarities that occur between both eras; times have changed but the phrase, 'old habits die hard,' can be sometimes found true even in today's day and age. One of the most thought- provoking things I find about this subject is the choices that huge, influential leaders had to make in order to either save their country or change it for the better, therefore leaving their mark and ultimately changing the future as we know it. Not just this but it's fascinating to be able to delve into the history of different cultures and discover what circumstances they were going through and the contrast between what their perception of right and wrong was compared with how society now perceives it. I think people who would particularly excel in this course are those that are quiet opinionated people who like to share their views with other people and negotiate and debate with those who may or may not agree; I think this is essential in History as there is no right or wrong answer so the more you discuss the more you learn and the more open minded you will be about different reflections of the past. However, that is not to say that people who are not great speakers cannot also excel in the subject; researching and essay skills are crucial when it comes to this degree as there is lots of essay writing as well as creative writing-which I find very exciting, so I think those with creative minds will enjoy themselves greatly. Another reason why I think this course is great is because of the way we can discern more about the lives of the generations before us and explore diverse cultures and their ancient history; how ordinary people not just well-known politicians used to get by and all the milestones they've been through to achieve freedom, rights and acceptance in society. Overall, those are just a few of my reasons to view History as something more than a bore and could in fact help us with learning more about the future by simply peeking back at the past.
