The Lock! (Preet Shirgill – Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College) On the 27th of January the McBroom family became victims of a very tragic incident. They found out that they had been robbed after coming back from a family party, and then noticing that their door had been left wide open with a butter knife resting on top of the door mat. “This could have supposedly been the weapon used to unlock the door and break in;” according to Officer Khalid. I had also questioned him, “How could it be so easy for someone to unlock the door without any key?” He told me that criminals inspect whether the door handle is able to move up and down when a door has been shut if so – It means that the owners have not closed their doors with a double lock; making it a vulnerable house to ‘wipe out’. The police are still enquiring more about this case and have decided to fix more neighbourhood cctv cameras after taking into consideration, the crimes increasing nowadays. Michelle McBroom states “We should have taken much more precaution, its something we have only heard about and never experienced before, and so we took security quite lightly in that sense. Its not something that you really think about unless you are the one affected.” The family have incurred a huge loss and now are devastated that they may have to spend around 3,000 pounds making up for their previous missing TVs, laptops and ipads. It is very important that everyone pays attention to house security and safety as the next target could be you!
