Waltham Abbey in preparations for their ‘Cavalcade of Light’ on Friday 24th November.

Waltham Abbey’s annual display for the lead up to Christmas is here once again. Every year the town is full of people, all in the Christmas spirit, who turn up for various different things. Whether it be because of the fairground rides, the festive floats, the bright lights and huge christmas tree or even the burger van, thousands of the public are expected to be there. Waltham Abbey, famous for being the final resting place of King Harold, isn’t shy of a crowd and actually held the canoeing at the 2012 London Olympics at the White Water Rafting Centre (Lea Valley).

The town's Cavalcade of Light display sets off at 7pm from Cornmill car park, featuring floats such as Santa's sleigh, and will travel through Abbey Church car park, Church Street, Market Square and Sun Street. It is expected that the fairground rides will be one of the most busy aspects of the event as there will be many thrill-seeking children there looking for an adrenaline rush. Shops are going to be open later just for the occasion and the Waltham Abbey Church will be opening the doors for the public. A regular attender of this display, Denise Smith, called the event “a brilliant night out for the family”, stating that the whole night is “truly magical”. Additionally, there is a competition held for the best entries in the Cavalcade of Light parade with prizes of £1,000 for the Best Float Entry and £500 for the Best Pedestrian Entry. The Mayor of Epping Forest is expected to attend along with thousands of others.
