As kitten season is now underway this week has already seen several urgent cases concerning stray and abandoned female cats giving birth to kittens.

Celia Hammond, of the Celia Hammond Animal Trust, said four nine-week-old kittens were saved by a brother and sister who discovered them on a doorstep in Marcus Street. CCTV footage shows a woman dressed in a black leather jacket, blue jeans, and black and white trainers approach a property from the street at 3.16pm carrying a white and red box. When she reaches the doorstep, she places the box down and leaves via the left-hand side of the building.

A second piece of CCTV footage shows that at 3:25pm a similar-looking box is discovered by a man while he is leaving the property. He then calls down his sister and they open the box together the woman then pulls out two kittens one by one before placing them back inside. The kittens were said to be “panting”, “shaking” and barely moving when the pair opened up the box.

The woman called the Celia Hammond Animal Trust on the advice of a neighbour after giving the kittens water and placing them on a blanket. Celia picked up the kittens last night and is now appealing for the woman in the video to come forward as the mother cat will be in desperate need of neutering. She said: “Dumping animals likes this is absolutely disgusting. “This was a terrible thing to do, something bad could have happened to them – a fox could have taken them.”
