Right. So It's 2017- science is progressing, technology is progressing, media is progressing; basically our world is becoming more evolved. That leads me to the youth of the 21st century; compared to older generations we can't help but being so exceptionally different because of all the things I've listed above. If we do take a turn back in time it's fascinating just how far the world and its youth has come and I'm going to be comparing the generation back then to how it is now. I'm sure every young person has heard things like, 'I was so much more active at your age,' or ' you're always stuck to that phone'- of course this isn't a ranting session about parents but I thought some research was in order to find out exactly what kids our age used to do back then when there were no such things as wifi or smart phones; seems unbelievable now but yes people did live without Google. So back in the day teenagers/ kids used to watch TV for either very few hours or none at all- this would be due to the fact that some families were not able to afford the very early version of television or cable and there were hardly any channels to watch as it was such a new prospect. Not just this but at that time TVs didn't have a 24 hour programme there was only one TV station where programmes started at 5 and ended at 10pm with most of the content mainly being cartoons, sketches or the news. Compared to our generation...well let's just say the amount of TV shows we have are limitless and most of us if not everyone has a TV in their homes so we spend way more hours either glued to our televisions or addicted to our laptops and tablets which literally have all that our hearts desire. Not just this but us now have all sorts of ways to communicate without actually meeting face to face, whether it be social media or simple messaging and sending emails; back then things were a whole lot different without such things as Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook etc. People used the good old way-the telephone and I'm not talking about the smart phones that 98% of us all have- I'm actually talking about the thing that cannot fit inside your pocket and gets plugged in to the wall. Next comes going out and having fun- in this generation this is a very different story for different type of teenagers or youths- if you're amongst the older youth clubbing is quite a popular suggestion as well as having massive parties and bashes while others may simply like to relax at home either binge watching Netflix or reading a good book. Youth back then liked to go to discos to let off a bit of steam and instead of meeting up at cafes or big shopping centres with friends like we do now liked to go to confectioneries or bakeries to load up on sweets and snacks- really quite innocent and sweet if you look back now. Moreover, moving on to fashion and materialism in youths. The fashion choices of teens before were almost all the same consisting of modest inexpensive clothes- of course now we know that this isn't quite the case. Materialism is quite a big thing now and peer pressure as well to follow the latest trends, have the best brands yet also ultimately have your own unique style. Rounding up, with all these points- can adults really compare the youth now to how it was back then? Circumstances are a whole lot different today with more new inventions being made and the culture of today's society so negative comparisons between the two is very controversial and sometimes not very effective.
