The new 2017 BMW 5 series, code named the G30 has been revealed at the Loughton BMW showroom, where potential customers could test drive and also pre-order a new 5 series.

Munich’s new mid-sized saloon is to compete against its rivals in the same sector. Such as, the new Mercedes’s Benz e-class, and Audi’s A6. The new 5 series is all new compared to the outgoing model. It is an all new body with new components to match.

BMW have released an new array of more efficient, more powerful engines. Ranging from a 2.0 litre, 190 bhp diesel, to a 3.0 litre, 340 bhp petrol. Despite being more powerful than the outgoing engines, all the engines are more economical than their predecessors. This is accomplished by cooling more effectively, reducing the amount of cylinders used and increasing tolerances. This allows the engine to be more effective in any scenario, whether it is a track day, or a motorway cruise.

To outclass the competitors, BMW has equipped the G30 with the latest technology. The car has all the tech from gesture control, which allows the driver to complete many controls by a flick of twist of the wrist, to closing grills for better engine insulation during stops and for better aerodynamics which saves fuel. New safety technology introduced by BMW includes a camera between the signature kidney grills. It uses beams and sensors to track the road ahead and prepares the brakes and applies them if they see danger. The car also comes with a self-driving function for motorway’s, a display key, night vision, head up display, and a remote control parking function which allows the driver to move their car into a small space or garage from a swipe of the key.

The exterior of the car similar yet there are subtle differences which add up to a changed look of the car. The kidney grills are now larger and are connected to the new LED headlights. The rear of the car is wider and lower than the predecessor, with wider lights that melt into the side if the car for better visibility. The side of the car is very similar to its predecessor with the same characteristics but is now taller and with new 20 inch wheels. The dimensions of the car are now bigger. It is taller, wider and longer than the predecessor, now nearing the size of the full size luxury car, the BMW 7 series. You can compare looks with the images of both model's

The interior is a revolution compared to the 2010 5 series, with higher quality materials used, improved interior lighting, new luxurious seats, new steering wheel, new centre console and a new digital LCD multifunction speedometer. The overall effect of the new interior is a premium product that would be expected to be used in higher end models. You can also compare interior's with the images above.

BMW were proud to present the new 5 series. Fans and customers at the revealing were very happy with the car overall. A current BMW owner said, ‘ This is a new technological feat, two step forward compared to the previous model. With great looks, a great drive and great safety. What more could you ask for?’ A fan said, ‘An incredible car, however the 5 series is grown too big for its class.’ Even though steakholders could request a few possible tweaks, the 5 series had predominantly positive feedback. The G30 seem to be a success, but will the positive comments be backed up with a vast number of orders? Only time can tell.
