Did you know that if prosecuted and found guilty for littering you could be fined up to £2500? Have you ever seen a sink on the side of a road before? What about a mattress? Well these are all things that I have seen before here in Aldborough Hatch; Fly tipping has become an increasingly worrying problem with people illegally dumping waste on land without the permission off the owner often hoping to get rid of unwanted household items free of charge such as sofa’s, mattresses’ and even sinks! Many people do it not knowing the consequences of their actions on the environment the economy and society. It can affect natural wildlife preventing animals from using the soil items are being dumped upon. It could also cause infestations of mice and rats which are almost impossible to dispose of. A lot of people try to dispose of hazardous materials sometimes unknowingly they may get rid of harmful materials which can have a long term effect on the environment. Sometimes people use fly tipping as an alternative to landfills.

In the last few months a witness had seen a new resident throwing a table, cabinet and TV set into the shrubberies in Spearpoint Gardens it was photographed and reported to the Environmental services run by the London borough of Redbridge. On several occasions the council has been made aware of the issues of fly tipping however not much has been done to resolve the issue. In the last few months a select handful of posters have been put up by the council to stop fly tipping however no legal action has been taken against any prosecutors. This had little to no effect after this cameras were placed along Aldborough Road North and one inhabitant was surprised to see that a mattress had been place right under the cameras. Many people believe that in order to stop fly tipping a more serious precaution should be taken against people caught fly tipping at the moment it is not see as a priority however it is still a problem that must be faced.
