Stemettes
What is Stemettes? Recently there is a growing increase of girls who are partaking in STEM subjects. Stemettes is a way for girls to throw themselves into the world of STEM with people (women) who are already in STEM. I have been on a program with several other young girls between above the ages of 15. This provides them with a mentor who is a lady already part of the industry and she gives them guidance with either their A-Levels, GCSE’s or even University.
What do they do? Not only do they provide mentors they hold events for people of all ages in order to get more young and old girls involved in this area. Hackathons, panel events with huge banks, and all types of cool things. Also they are very strong food advocates so their events are almost guaranteed to have great food.
Stemettes is a way for girls to communicate with not only each other but to network with more experienced people and get a taste of the big world and how great STEM really is.
STEM traditionally has been a male dominated subject and Stemettes are challenging that by combating these stereotypes and leading girls into this male dominated society.
