Donald Trump. Its almost a household name nowadays, now the new president of America, his inauguration and the whole electoral process has caused mass controversy across the whole world. People have called him unjust, unfit to be the president and many have lost hope in the American voting system. Obviously its never bad for everyone. Of course Trump has supporters who rally endlessly for him and basically live, breath and die by his words.

In the past few weeks, after Trumps inauguration, there were women’s marches held throughout the world; however the main topic of these marches was…You guessed it! Trump. As a female who attended the march themselves I must say it was very empowering and really showed the unity of women worldwide. Of course with pride comes negativity, many of these marches turned into anti trump rallies due to the degrading things he has said about women over the years which leads people to fear oppression. Of course there will always be political opposition and disagreements, no matter who is in power, no matter what colour their skin is, their religion or their political ideas. Despite this, the negativity towards Trump was somewhat even more empowering as people took ownership of themselves and their political views, expressing yourself is a very crucial thing to do and the atmosphere was amazing.

However, London didn’t see the extent of it as hundreds of thousands of people grouped together in America, closing down roads and creating masses of noise as they went. To many people this was a sign of strength as it showed that no matter what one man says, many people may defy him and his views. This opposition was also fought with opposition as many Trump supporters tried to defend him and his actions which caused outrage and masses of hate. Despite this, people must respect that everyone is entitled to their own political views and can express themselves.

This whole election has been very rocky and I personally think that the marches were a very good end to the electoral processes, it really highlighted how strong a group of people can be as well as how much respect we have for each other and our local communities. The love in the crowds was immense, you could almost feel it through your TV screens but it was nothing compared to being in the middle of it all. Feeling peoples passion and self love is a very empowering thing, my friend who accompanied me to the march said, “Love was everywhere, whatever negativity there was was drowned out by the shouts of happy, proud women”. I think that definitely sums up overall feeling across many countries right now, that love always trumps hate.
