Donald Trump's ban of migration into the U.S from 7 muslim majority countries through an executive order has sparked deep opposition from across the UK and especially in London. Jeremy Corbyn openly voiced opposition to Donald Trump's planned State visit during an ITV interview on Sunday. Many other politicians followed suit including Scottish Tory leader Ruth Davidson and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and who deemed the ban as 'shameful and cruel'.

In Corbyn's North Islington constituency 1 in every 16 people signed the petition to cancel Trump's state visit. This is the 2nd highest rate of anti trump backing in any UK constituency. The petition which Corbyn urged his supporters to sign has now gained over 1 million and 700,000 signatures, and will therefore be debated in parliament on the 20th February. Theresa May has stated that she and the Government do not agree with Trumps policy. Yet May has of yet made no statement about Trump's visit which was offered by herself.

Londoners need May to step up to Trump and call the meeting off as to invite a clearly racist leader who does not pass laws constitutionally is a betrayal of British values and culture. A state visit would be a symbol that we support Trump in shutting out child refugees, war torn families and asylum seekers from the safe home they need. Our society is diverse and strong and we do not fear other cultures, we embrace them.
