Over the past few weeks, , the City of London, and its surrounding areas have been engulfed in fallen clouds multiple times. The reduced visibility has caused multiple accidents, on major motor ways and dimly lit country roads. The fog is causing problems for us, but what is it?

Fog is when the visibility on earth is reduced to 0.62 miles or so, due to floating water droplets. It is usually formed in one of two ways.  The first of these ways is when air is cooled to its, “due point”, and the evaporated water becomes liquid again. The second way is when evaporated moisture is added to the air, during cold temperatures. Not only are there different ways fog is formed, but there are also different types of fog! In arctic regions, frozen fog is common: when the moisture in the air and freezes, but remain floating! There is also acidic fog, which is formed in heavily polluted air, and smog: water and smoke particles.

So now you know: fog is much more complicated than the problems it creates.
