People across London held their breath earlier this week when it was reported that there would be a high chance of snow across Thursday and Friday.

However, dreams were soon dampened by the torrential rain that fell on Thursday afternoon, preventing the snow fall that came later from settling on the ground.

Some felt rather let down by the lack of snow, particularly school children who were hoping for more days off after the recent Christmas break. Those who were upset include Amber, a Year 10 student from the Ursuline Academy Ilford.

"It's disappointing," She said. "I was really hoping it would snow; it hasn't in ages."

However, with recent reports of the effects of the weather across the country, those who are disappointed should perhaps be more grateful for the lack of snow.

There have been nearly 80 flood warnings across the UK, including in Jaywick, Essex, where many are being evacuated from their homes due to being at risk of severe flooding from the effects of the recent extreme weather. Some flights have also been cancelled at Heathrow airport due to the conditions.

Despite snow being a no show, temperatures still remain low with expected lows of just 1 degree Celsius on Saturday and heavy rain is expected across the weekend.

Although London has not received the winter wonderland that they were hoping for, many are hoping that the year has started as it means to go on and that with any luck we may be in store for a white Christmas later in 2017.
