Crossrail for Ilford

We are rapidly approaching the deadline for Crossrail with 2017 just around the corner the first changed are said to be made in May where there will be new trains introduced from Shenfield to Ilford. But what is the Crossrail project and what does that mean for us? A brand new line for you to take. With trains direct to the centre of the city it is said to be able to reduce journey time by up to half in some cases. This ambitious project is said to be completed in 2019.

Ilford will have a new station, one with a better ticket hall, modern exterior and instead of the never ending stairs there will also be a lift. Very handy as this was a facility not available before. The station will still be situated along Cranbrook road so no need to worry about having to change stations.

Currently only platforms 3 and 4 are in use. When Crossrail kicks in there will be all platforms working and lifts from platform 1, 2/3, 4 this will create easy access for people with lower mobility or people carrying heavy suitcases (Bonus note, Heathrow will be a direct train journey from Ilford so no need to change).

Many people are unaware of the York Mews entrance which is to the back, there will be a refurbishment on this as well as the rest of the building to create a more spacious area. This will avoid tight lines and confusion in the station as right now everything is a bit squashed. The platforms will also be extended to cater for the new 200m long trains. The line that will run through Ilford will be the Elizabeth line.

So what will be happen straight away, if you use the tfl you will have realised that the seats and the train itself is rather old. So from 2017 there will be more modern trains introduced with automated doors so you will not have to press open in order for the door to respond. This also means more space in the trains and less human traffic. Which all in all results to a very comfortable journey.

Lots to look forward to from TFL.
