This week Ada, National College for Digital Skills based in North London hosted an exclusive event at digital studio Ustwo in Shoreditch to promote their 2-year-old institution to members of the public and especially year 11 and college students looking to branch out into the fast-expanding world of technology. Director of Careers and HR Ana Herrera and Principal Adam Rogers began the evening with an introduction to Ada and their focused range of BTEC and A-Level course subjects, including computer science, physics and mathematics.
Free pizza and drinks were served before and after the event to make guests feel welcome, and in between, Ustwo employees including former BBC and Economist editor Jason DaPonte spoke candidly about their work. This was followed by a tour of the Ustwo offices which gave potential Ada students a taste of life in digital marketing. Staff members showed off some unique projects they'd been working on, such as software-based learning resources for science, online support tools for kidney patients and virtual companions for child patients at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool.
Although the conventional option for post-secondary school pupils is standard sixth form college or an apprentcship, Tottenham Hale's state-of-the-art hub Ada, named after the world's first computer programmer Ada Lovelace, provides another brilliant option to be considered, especially for those seeking a career in science and technology.
