As the shadow of global warming looms over the world, London experiences the warmest day in April in over 70 years. The 29.1-degree temperature in April is completely out of this world, especially when compared to the average April temperature which is 11.4 Celsius. This is drastic change from the snow we were dealing with less than a month ago.

The only comparable occasion in this millennium was in 2001 with a temperature of 27.8. this morning, Met Office and London Ambulance have taken to social media in order to warn Londoners about the necessity to drink more water than usual. All have been touched by the overwhelming heat, but the worst affected are tree hay fever sufferers. Later in the week, the runners in the London Marathon faced temperatures of up to 24.1 degrees, the hottest on record for this event.

More locally, the District line was facing delays in Richmond, apparently due to a signaling problems. This issue has affected the Piccadilly and Circle line as well. The line from Earls Court to Wimbledon also experienced delays, which were so serious that many took the bus due to the hopelessness of the train situation.

The visitors of Richmond park and their pets have complained about the lack of shade as the trees have not yet grown leaves.

Let’s hope this trend of extreme temperatures does not persist, and we will enjoy comfortable temperatures for the rest of the year.
