In February every year Rosebery School shows off their community spirit by holding a Rag Week. It is organised every year by the wonderful and dedicated Head Girl team, who organise events from cake sales to the Teacher’s Top of the Pops competition that rounds off the end of the week. This year the theme was world records, and we had events such as Teacher’s Total Wipe-out, Glyn vs Rosebery netball, and the famous Krispy Kreme donut sale.

The school managed to raise over £4000 for different charities, but perhaps the most incredible achievement is managing to paint a whole mural on the wall of the canteen in a week.

As the Rag Week theme was world records, the mural featured some of our favourite records from over the years, such as: The world’s largest onion, highest jump by a dolphin, highest box office gross for an animation on opening weekend and the smallest brained dinosaur.

The tradition for Rag Week is that a mural gets painted on the canteen walls, to match the theme and to mark a reminder for all the hard work we put in and the money we raised. On each wall there is a different one, one for Harry Potter, with a picture of Harry on his broomstick, sporting Gryffindor robes of course. One another wall there is a selection of our most loved British TV shows from Sherlock to The Great British Bake Off, for the theme was television.

Not to forget that each mural is surrounded by a selection of brightly coloured handprints, from each and every student to remind themselves of the part they played in the week. Each student pays money to support a charity and put their handprint up on the wall along with their friends.

All in all, Rag Week is a great way to brighten up the months back to school after Christmas.
