Numbers don’t define us

Through out our lives numbers always dictate us, whether a certain dead line placing stress on us, our weight or our school grades. What ever it is the number is always so significant, holding the power we place in it. It is hard to imagine a world without numbers considering how much humans rely on them, but it is undeniable that in nature animals live in peace without the stress of numbers. Every number is a man made aspect to control our daily lives, whether the time or your age, each number has a major impact on our lives- but why do numbers have such vital control over us?

Perhaps we would feel lost in a world where precision does not exist with the lack of numbers, or because intelligence is so often defined as how well you’ve done in a maths test.

Would the cease of numbers wreak havoc?

The truth of the matter is that time doesn't really exist because infinity cannot be cut down into chunks to simplify the reality the way humans have attempted to do. Time is merely numbers some humans have invented and depend on, but this aspect of our lives technically has no real place in society because essentially it has no power. The power that is related to time only exists because humans rely so heavily on it, if we eradicated time we would struggle because we wouldn’t know how to coordinate our selves. The same is true for every other number, we could live in a world with money but without the value of it dictating our quality of life, but it would demolish the barrier between wealth and poverty and people are too greedy to allow this to happen.

Equally we could remove every number which exists but we would be left in a world where people do not know how to act. Over the years humans have evolved to need numbers to survive and most importantly to thrive, without numbers we wouldn't be able to get a handle of life because already numbers have such considerable power.

Some argue that our ability to measure quantities of time or distance or even to comprehend equations, are what differentiate us from other animals, but perhaps the reason humans are the only creatures on earth which demonstrate their evil is because they have numbers and facts to back them up. Perhaps is we removed numbers from the equation human life would be much more peaceful or perhaps we would evolve into barbaric savages- Either way we place too much power in the hands of insignificant numbers- and then let the result bother us.
