Sleep. It is one of the most important things we have to do to survive. In fact Sleep deprivation will kill you faster then food deprivation and on average we should spend 33% of our lives happily laying in our beds but that can unfortunately be taken away from us by stress and the constant routine of early mornings.

Most of us are either in some form of education or, go to work and that usually results in a lot of us needing to get to our destinations around 8 to 9am which means, annoyingly early alarms. I think most of us are not morning people and do not have an average “bed time” of 9pm which, has the repercussion of us not having sufficient sleep. Maybe, we could have 6-7 hours of sleep but is that really enough?

I understand why schools and work places have early starting times. None of us really want to be getting home at an insanely late time because of that extra hour or two in bed. Meaning we have no time to go out and enjoy ourselves after a long day and it would be just a bit hard to change all the early wake up calls in the UK with the click of a finger. When I asked someone who has been working for nearly 10 years she said “I still find it hard to wake up in the morning sometimes because It's so early but I prefer this over getting home at 8.”

Although it’s easy to understand the reasons to why we should just get over it and deal with waking up early and sleeping in on the weekends I still don’t think you can justify the extreme long term issues of sleep deprivation. As a result of it you are more likely to get mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression and can physically just feeling terrible and run down. We all know it’s not easy to have a simple conversation or to complete little tasks while working off Five hours of sleep and a coffee. Honestly , its hard to see why it’s really worth all the discomfort and although there are some pro's to it, it's still hard to justify loss of sleep.
