On Thursday 18th January 2018, several passionate AS and A level art, textiles and photography students of Tolworth Girls’ School went on a trip to London’s Business Design Centre.

Before we went, we stopped off to explore The White Cube contemporary art gallery where we saw the Gilbert and George exhibition with the Beard Pictures and their Fuckosophy. Their work was very interesting where very colourful prints were joined together in square frames. These artists are mentioned in the AS exam unit so it was very useful to see their artwork in person and to take our own photographs.

The Business Design Centre was an eye opening experience to see so many talented art pieces all under one roof. It was set up across three different floors with a mixture of smaller galleries and show rooms. Amazing art work was there from Grayson Perry, Banksy and Hugo Garcia Urrutia. As well as admiring all the excellent work, it was a very informative gallery with people there to inform you about the art work and there were postcards in each section giving key background knowledge on the artists themselves and their inspirations. The majority of art work there, was paintings either on a canvas or framed and there was also some unusual sculptures and 3D effect pieces that were so intriguing. The best part for me being an art and textiles student was to be able to take as many of my own photographs as I wanted, so I recommend if you’re a creative person that you will become highly inspired if you take a trip to the Business Design Centre.
