The Sutton business awards is a high-status, influential event that aims to supply, acknowledge and reward to Sutton’s most assiduous local businesses. Attended by many well respected members of parliament, Paul Scully, who goes to the event annually, said “What these awards do, really showcases the very best, it showcases the people that made that decision, and the success that they’ve had. It’s really good that we celebrate that, and use them to inspire more people to set up business, to be entrepreneurs and to give employment opportunities, especially for our young people”[i] After its sixth consecutive year running, it has obtained the title of being Sutton’s most prestigious business event, making it a very acclaimed and esteemed event.

On the 16th of November the Sutton business awards was held by the Sutton chamber of commerce at the holiday Inn. Here, many businesses, companies and entrepreneurs integrated and collectively came together to attend the event. Businesses were formally invited to be nominated for the awards; this was then officially declared on the 29th of June. There was a vast variety of awards, with twelve categories to decided from, one to cater to each type of business. For example, some awards were the best business of the year, The entrepreneur of the year and The Green award. The finalists were then invited to a gala dinner and an awards ceremony where the winners were announced.

The event was supported by a range of sponsors. The headline sponsor was CNM estates, an international apartment rental agency that intends to source, fund and develop an assortment of housing such as; student housing, hotels, and multi use developments. CNM has twelve years of professional experience and has manufactured 26 developments in the UK alone. Other sponsors also contributed in funding the event such as; Sutton College, The Holiday Inn, Opportunity Sutton and many more.

The Sutton business awards was deemed one of the most eagerly anticipated dates in South West London’s business calendar, and over 150 guests attended the event. The occasion was a celebration of commercial excellence and consisted of many events such as; a champagne reception, a three course meal, welcomes speeches, the awards ceremony and an after party with an accommodated DJ. Both the awards ceremony and after party were hosted by Sutton’s voice TV’s David Blackmore. David Blackmore, primarily known for his work on the eminent film ‘Wolf Hall’, is a renowned British film editor that has won awards such as the British Academy Television Craft Award for Best Editing in addition has been nominated for an Emmy. Blackmore presented the awards ceremony phenomenally, and was evidently very thrilled for the event as he posted on his social media account “Looking forward to tonight’s Sutton awards, there are some amazing finalists. Sutton is becoming THE place to do business.”[ii]

By the end of the night, numerous businesses either were commended, highly commended or won an award, adding credibility to their business name. Love teeth Dental practice obtained the overall best business of the year, and Neil Wandsworth achieved the Entrepreneur of the year.
