Lil peep was an upcoming rapper who has accumulated millions of plays on his songs. His real name is Gustav Ahr and only recently turned 21 on the 1st of November. His future was bright and his career was flourishing but his dreams came to a staggering halt due to they way he handled his emotions and feelings through his addiction to the drug Xanax.

Lil peep died recently on the 15th of November due to an overdose on laced Xanax. He was found dead on his tour bus as he was supposed to play a concert that night in Arizona, United States.

Lil peep's death was the result of his depression and how to combat that, he relied on the drug Xanax to make him feel better but grew an addiction to it. This death has raised the problem of drug addiction to the mainstream, which is good as this is a conversation that should be happening more often and more openly.

Issues are arriving around his death as some people are blaming his death on his fans as they helped to romanticize his addiction with xanax which he so often mentioned in his music. In most of his posts on social media and his songs, he mentions his need for the drug but no one stopped to question it. Lil peep has expressed multiple times on his social media that he had been struggerling with his addiction to xanax but was challenging that into his music. Which could be seen as him glorifying that addiction but also as a cry for help. In fact, his addiction to the drug was so well known that his own manager was not even surprised when he received the call stating that Lil peep had died.

Due to how normalized drug use is in our society, his cries to help out on social media was ignored and just seen as part of his character rather than something he needed actual help with. As in this modern society, almost every popular rap song mentions some kind of drug to the point that listeners have become immune to it. Lil peeps death has provided proof that something needs to change in this industry as his mental health issues and drug abuse was exploited to promote a lifestyle. His fans supported this lifestyle and aesthetic rather than being alarmed by his open drug abuse content he was producing.

Hopefully his death will serve a purpose in halting the promotion of drug use, which is so popular in the rap community. Being self-destructive is unfortunately too common in the music industry and has become normalized and neglects the fact that human bodies do not mix well with cocktails of potentially deadly drugs.
