Avery hill park is home to one of the best preserved victorian conservatories in the uk, while it winter garden has some of the most exotic plants making it a gorgeous and unique heritage site. Alongside the winter garden is the elegant picture house. These buildings are part of what makes our park award winning.

Currently the winter garden is owned by the University of Greenwich. Three years ago they announced their plans to sell their campus in Avery Hill. This has led to lots of uncertainty over the future of these historic buildings. Now the question is whether it will be left abandoned, made into over 300 flats or be bought by English Heritage, with the latter plans meaning it will stay open but it would no longer be free.

A campaign was set up to stop the abandonment of this amazing Victorian conservatories. For the past 3 year the campaigners have been asking Greenwich Council and the University of Greenwich about the future of the Winter garden. However, they need £6 million to raise for the winter garden and £750,000 to turn the picture garden into an art space. It is near impossible to raise this sort of money needed to regenerate these buildings.
