The well known Bunny Park has been renamed Hanwell Zoo. Located in Brent River Park the zoo has replaced Brent Lodge Animal Centre. The Animal Centre has been popular with local people for over 40 years. It has changed its name to a zoo to reflect the variety of wildlife housed at the zoo. There are more than 42 species with more being planned for later in the year.
Those visiting will be delighted to see meerkats and lemurs, capybaras and flamingos. There will also be Javan peafowl. Other species include red crowned cranes, tropical frogs, pygmy goats, kune kune pigs and the zoo’s very own resident porcupine! Visitors can look forward to the arrival of Tamarin monkeys, frilled neck lizards and alpacas.
The zoo’s butterfly and reptile house has had a make over as part of the improvements and visitors will have the unique experience of walking amongst free flying butterflies.
Children will be delighted with the soon to open brand new playground which will include a sand pit and slide. This will be in addition to the existing playground – Brent Lodge Park.
There will be a small charge to visit Hanwell Zoo: adutls: £2.50 and Children over three, £1. Children under three will be able to visit free of charge. Annual season tickets will be available - £15 adults and £10 for senior citizens, people registered as disabled and children over 3.
In addition to the zoo visitors can take in the natural beauty of the surrounding parkland including an arboretum, maze and renovated café. These areas will be free to visit.
Fortunately the council has managed to secure the future of the zoo so that it can continue its vital conservation work. In addition it will enable valuable education programmes for the community.
