Network Rail have been working very industriously over the past week with the Great Eastern Mainline closed in both direction between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. This had been causing large scale problems for week-end commuters whose journeys are being severely delayed.

Network Rail have stated that this is only a short-term disruption as they finish the final phase of London’s eagerly awaited Crossrail transportation system.

This system is going to add a whopping 10% of capacity to London’s trains which means that some commuters are now going to find seats to experience a much more comfortable journey to and from work.

Furthermore, the system allows stress-free travel without changes for commuters from the suburbs of London with a train linking Shenfield, Central London and Heathrow Airport with at least one train every 10 minutes. This will also save commuters a lot of time which means that they will spend more time at work. Mr Andrews, a local commuter said, “Crossrail is going to benefit me a lot as I can now get home much quicker which gives me more time to spend with the kids!”

On the other hand, roads and areas around the Crossrail stations are already struggling to cope with the intense traffic. The traffic jams are expected to get a lot worse as the rail network is going to lure a lot of people into these areas. Mr Williams, a local estate agent says, “The roads are already jammed due to commuter and Crossrail is going to bring only more misery to me as a man who drives to work every day!”

However, some local business owners are hoping for brighter future. Mrs Pike owns a coffee shop just outside Shenfield station. She says, “All these extra customers are going to bring me more money and profit. It is also going to result in a lot of new jobs in my area!”

Overall, the people of the suburbs of London in Essex, Middlesex and Berkshire are very eagerly waiting for this new revolutionary transport system to open to make life much easier.
