Three students, and a hoard of amateur dancers, successfully raised £550 for the mental health charity, Mind, which took place this Wednesday (26th April). Jessica Elilnesan, Raabia Kamil and Simi Menon, who attend Woodford County High School, were this year’s organisers of the schoolwide Interform Dance competition, and all proceeds went towards this charity.

The contest is an annual tradition, in which students across the school choreograph, rehearse and perform their own dance to an audience of their peers in order to fundraise for the chosen cause. When the organisers were asked about their reasons for choosing Mind, Jessica Elilnesan said “We chose it because we’re studying Psychology as an A Level; we were really interested in mental health issues, and thought that Mind was one of the best charities out there to help the cause and make a difference.”

While only audience members were asked to pay, many girls took it upon themselves to donate to the charity, resulting in the incredible total after the event. Jessica said of the participants’ generosity, “We really didn’t expect it to be such a success, because we didn’t think the classes would be so dedicated and feel so ready to raise money for the charity. We were just so happy and overwhelmed with the amount we had raised.”

The contest was a huge success, as everyone both enjoyed themselves and helped to make a great contribution to a worthy cause. Hopefully this school and others will be inspired to hold equally successful charity events in the future.
