Yesterday, South Norwood’s new community kitchen opened its doors for the first time offering delicious food for the homeless, poor and anyone else who wanted to turn up. The community kitchen opened at lunchtime in South Norwood Baptist Church helping to bring local people together and spread community spirit.

The community kitchen uses food that would otherwise go to waste and provides meals for those who need it. Sponsored by Tesco, this community kitchen helps stop the wastage of food and encourages local grocers to get involved as well. The food cooked and menu depends on the donations from Tesco and their own stores. However, as many people can get involved and because of the big venue, they can cater over thirty people at once.

The community kitchen will be serving food every Saturday lunch time in South Norwood Baptist Church. Many local residents are encouraged to donate to the community kitchen or help out in any other way they can. Also, with all the shops threatening to close down before, this kitchen is bringing back the spirit back that was surely lacking. The community kitchen is another step in the right direction for South Norwood and if continued for a long time will strengthen bonds within the South Norwood community.
