Some people may feel it is the hardest GCSE that they have/have had to take and the new changes to the grading and curriculum of the subject only makes this worse. This new 9 to 1 grading system created by Michael Gove (former Education Secretary) in February 2013 consists of topics never before taught in GCSE specifications e.g. iteration and also consists mostly of the more difficult topics. So how are students in Bromley adapting to these changes and how should they really be revising?
One A-grade student decided gave the following advice based on her experience trying to prepare for maths exams:
1. Memorise the formulas- "now most formulas such as the volume and surface area formulas will not be given in the exam"
2. Flashcards- "they break down the information into different topics"
3. Mathswatch- "websites such as mathswatch explain the different topics in short videos and are very useful for quick revision"
4. Practice papers- "allow you to see what you need to learn"
5. Revision guides and workbooks- "have all of the curriculum available for reference."
She also said "put phones and all devices that distract you away, and definitely don't listen to music or watch TV. Try your best to focus and drinks lots of water. Keep your water next to you so that you don't get distracted by repeatedly getting up to get more."
