National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) has just passed, bringing with it challenge, inspiration and motivation for many, including Skye and Angharad, two budding young writers and participants in this challenge.

NaNoWriMo is a writing challenge, with a goal of fifty thousand words in one November alone.

Angharad completed the challenge and Skye made it to a grand total of thirty three thousand. In this interview, they share with us their thoughts and experiences.

Q: How do you feel that attempting NaNoWriMo has helped you improve your skills, Skye?

S: I feel that it helped me experiment a lot. Throughout the month I kept one idea in mind, but went through at least five iterations of the same thing. Just changing it like that, and trying new things in general helped my overall skills as a writer.

Q: Do you feel as if it has inspired to write when you would not have necessarily been so productive before?

S: Absolutely, yes. I'm lazy for everything, especially writing, so this has really helped me actually get things done.

Q: Do you feel like it's helped you overcome blocks that would have held you back before?

S: Definitely. I'd just write whatever came to mind, then go back and edit it later if I wanted to. I didn't have many blocks to face during the month.

Q: Angharad, how do you feel that taking part in this has motivated you to write, whereas you wouldn't write as much usually?

A: Because I know now that I can write as much daily, so now I know that I can do it, it'll influence me in the future to do so.

Q: Can you say anything inspiring for anyone considering it in the future?

A: It improves your determination to get things done. You get a very big sense of achievement when you finish. Yes, it's stressful, but it's worth it. It's hell, but in a good way!

A confidence booster and an inspiration for aspiring writers, or even those who just write for fun, NaNoWriMo is an incredibly positive and powerful challenge to partake in. It's an amazing achievement to be able to say that you've been there, done that - whether you made it or not!
