Bogus delivery men target Haringey businesses

Employees at two businesses were duped into handing over cash last week after conmen claimed to be collecting money for deliveries.

On May 5 at 9.30am a conman went into a sandwich bar in Grand Parade, Green Lanes saying he was collecting payment for a delivery of coffee.

Later that day a conman approached workers at a restaurant in Highgate High Street claiming to be collecting payment for a delivery of perfume.

In total more than £200 in cash was handed over in the incidents for what transpired to be non-existent goods.

In each case the suspect found out the name of the manager before turning up when the manager was away.

The suspect made a call pretending to be speaking to the manager in order to confirm details of the delivery and cost and then collected the cash from the employee.

No delivery was made and no goods received.

Police are not ruling out the possibility that the same person may have committed both offences.

The suspect is described as a white male with a slim build, aged late 20s to early 40s.

Managers are now being advised to review their delivery procedures with staff and to ensure that staff contact and speak to the manager themselves before handing over any payment for unexpected deliveries.
