Three months and still waiting for MFI kitchen
Margaret Green is still waiting for her kitchen
Margaret Green is still waiting for her kitchen

A fed-up woman has been waiting for more than three months for bungling MFI fitters to finish her bodged kitchen.

Margaret Green dished out £4,699 for new appliances, worktops and units and was told it could be fitted at her South Norwood home in no more than five days.

But weeks later and after several desperate telephone calls the cupboard units are wonky or damaged, holes have been left in the wall where electricity wires were installed and her in-built fridge-freezer will not shut properly - meaning two lots of shopping have been wasted.

Exasperated by MFI's excuses and after rearranging her life for delivery and installation crews she is still no closer to finding out when the work will be completed.

Mrs Green said: "I have been waiting and waiting for them to come a finish the job.

"I have kitchen stuff that is sitting outside getting rusty because I have nowhere to put it.

"It is ridiculous they way they treat people. It is disgusting behaviour, my life has been disrupted for the past three months."

The kitchen was ordered on Tuesday, November 29. MFI wrote to her in January to tell her that work would start on February 15 and take no more than five days for it to be delivered and installed.

We called MFI on Mrs Green's behalf.

After more than a dozen calls to various departments a spokesman for the company said: "MFI sincerely regrets the delay that Mrs Green has experienced with some items from her fitted kitchen being out of stock and we offer our full apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

"We have been in contact with the customer and have ordered the outstanding items as a priority.

"We have arranged for the items to be delivered by courier and have also arranged for a fitter to install put them into his kitchen."

No surprise, I'm waiting since January for my bathroom to have remedial work done as the original workmen (Godfrey and Ray)were clueless cowboys. Ring 0208 6658331,its the manager's direct line

My mother's been waiting 35 years for a G-Plan kitchen. Mind you, she did ask for a sink which would entice her husband to do the washing up =)

It's good to see the news-gathering resources of the mighty Guardian being put to good use. Forget stabbings and gang violence, send me a report quick. My Tesco delivery arrived outside my chosen window and my cheesecake may have melted. Someone needs to find out what's going on. It could all end in carnage.

Most of us don't really want to read about stabbings or gang violence anyway. A good paper publishes stories of all sorts - nice ones, problems people may have, etc. etc. What on earth makes anyone want to buy from MFI anyway? Their stuff is fairly ghastly - I would always use Allders.
