SOUTHALL is set to have nearly £7million invested into improving its town centre, tackling traffic problems, regenerating the area and creating jobs and training opportunities.
Ealing Council has recently secured £4.35m of investment from the Mayor of London’s Regeneration Fund.
Together with Local Implementation Plan (LIP), funding from TfL and council funds, the investment totals more than £6.85m.
Southall Broadway Urban Realm project has already been approved by the council, with the three-year initiative aiming to enhance the appearance and safety of the area.
Traffic flow along the Uxbridge Road corridor will be improved, pavements will be widened and loading and parking bays along the main road will be developed.
Southall Manor House will have an apprentice-led restaurant and training centre called Dine In Southall. This would provide apprentice opportunities and train around 400 students annually.
Those already working in local restaurants will also be able to make use of the project.
Southall’s principal streets will be revitalised, with improved public spaces and shop fronts, as well as development of the new Crossrail station.
It is expected the investment will create 40 new businesses and 200 new jobs.
Council leader Julian Bell, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve been able to secure this funding and can now start to deliver some of our ambitious plans for the regeneration of Southall.
“I’m particularly passionate about the plans to create the new apprentice-led restaurant and training kitchens. Southall has long been known as one of the best places in the UK to go for a curry and a huge number of people depend on the catering industry for their livelihood.”
