A CHARITY is seeking more knitters to help it wrap two Watford landmarks in warm scarves.

So far the Peace Hospice's knitting project, which has been running since December, has seen the creation of 100m of red and yellow scarf.

But, 1,100 metres is still needed to tie the finished scarves around the hospice building and Watford FC's Vicarage Road stadium.

Hospice community fundraising manager, Gill Crowson, said: "So far more than £1,000 has been raised, but there is still a long way to go.

"So if there is anyone who would like to take part, please let us know.

"We are not looking for expert knitters, just those who are willing to have a go and can knit garter stitch.

"The scarf will be 66 stitches wide and all participants will be asked to either ask for sponsorship or self sponsor.

"If you would like to take part we would love to hear from you."

Each knitter is asked to produce scarves of just under one metre in length using balls of wool collected free from Wilkinson's in Charter Place Watford.

Wool can also be collected from the hospice itself or its shops located throughout the Watford area.

Once enough scarves have been knitted, they will be stitched together and wrapped around the two Watford landmarks before being taken apart and sent to people in the third world via ADRA, an independent humanitarian agency.

Volunteers are needed to knit the scarves themselves and to stitch the finished lengths together.

Anyone interested in taking part in the project can telephone the hospice on 01923 330 340 or go to hospice reception, the helpdesk at Wilkinson in Charter Place or one of the hospice's shops.
