Police apologise for murder victim's 999 delay
Stuart McMahon
Stuart McMahon

A millionaire builder who was gunned down on the doorstep of his Earlsfield home was left undiscovered for four hours as police failed to pick up a 999 call, an inquest has heard.

Yesterday Westminster Coroners' Court was told how dad-of-two Stuart McMahon, 45, died in a hail of bullets at his Magdalen Road house at some time between 7pm on September 29, 2006 and 4.30am the following day.

Acting Detective Inspector David Kennett admitted that the four-hour delay was "unacceptable".

Mr McMahon died from gunshot wounds to the chest.

Coroner Paul Knapman recorded a verdict of unlawful killing.

Despite police offering a £20,000 reward to catch Mr McMahon's killer last year, no one has been arrested or charged for the murder.

The police cant pull their fingers out when someone gets shot yet they are right on your a**e when you drive 2mph over the speed limit or litter.

Says it all if you ask me!

Carly, I totally agree with you, the amount of times we have been stopped or followed and checked for no reason, this is what we pay our taxes for, while they are harrassing the innocent the criminals are getting away with what they are doing.

They were all probably round the corner hanging about the speed camera on Trinity Road.
Now I'm sorry but I dont think it is fair that I get stopped for the fact that maybe I like to drive with my music pretty loud & happen to drive what I would say is a good car for someone my age. People if I had stolen the car, would I really have music on load, asking to get pulled over? I dont think so.

Whilst I'm being interrogated by PC Plod, some poor old man is getting mugged or someone else being stabbed.
So how does that one work out??

Come on people sort it out!!

They must be really stupid pulling up motorists obviously all the criminals walk everywhere.
Remember the Yorkshire ripper he was caught after a traffic stop.

Sorry, I dont remember the Yorkshire Ripper, only ever learnt about him at school so I wouldn't know.
What I'm trying to say is that instead of the police running around pulling over motorists for the sake of a little bonus here & there. This poor man woulsdn't have been left dying for 5hrs & could still be here now!
I just want to know what they were thinking when they heard someone had been shot & decided to leave it 5hrs before going there? What was more important?
