WALTHAM ABBEY: Council forces removal of 'welcome' sign
A BUSINESSMAN has spoken of his disappointment after being forced to remove a town 'welcome' sign.
Howard Green, director of Duncan Phillips Ltd, removed sign from Highbridge Street, in Waltham Abbey, yesterday (April 30) after a member of the public complained about the 8m sign.
The district council, who Mr Green rents the board from via an agent, threatened to withdraw their approval for the sign, leaving Mr Green with no choice but to end the contract.
He said: "I'm disappointed I think my intentions have been misunderstood. I put the sign up for all the right reasons, I wanted to welcome people to Waltham Abbey. It has cost me several hundred pounds to remove it."
Mr Green added: "If you look at the area now where the sign was it's not particularily attractive. I would love to see a picture of the two side by side and ask people what they think looks better. Of course they might not agree with me, but there you are."

As long as it is in English and not a foreign language I don't mind.
