WALTHAM ABBEY: Letter-writing efforts pay off for pupils

PUPILS at a primary school have got their wish after writing to their town council in protest at litter in their neighbourhood.

As reported by the Guardian, the group of seven to nine-year-olds at Hillhouse Primary School, in Waltham Abbey, wrote to Waltham Abbey Town Council to demand that something was done about dog mess and litter issues around the school in Hillhouse.

Now classes 3 and 4C will see their letters put on display in the town hall, in Highbridge Street, as well as having an organised litter pick with the council to help solve the problem.

Teacher Gill Watts said she was "delighted" with the outcome of the project.

She said: "The children will be really pleased, espcially that there's a tangible result in the form of a litter pick, and it has shown them that democracy works."

She added: "I'm sure they will take their parents along to see the letters on display."
