Armed robbery in Tolworth
Three armed robbers have snatched a cashbox from a security guard in an armed robbery in Tolworth Broadway at noon today.
Witnesses say three men pulled up in a grey Peugeot alongside the security guard outside the Lloyds Bank.
A man jumped out of the back passenger door, brandishing what police say was a knife, and forcing the guard to hand over a cashbox.
The three then sped off down Tolworth Broadway before turning in to Princes Lane then Oakleigh Avenue.
A nearby resident spotted the three white men wearing balaclavas smashing the cashbox with a large sledge hammer.
When the men took off in the car, the witness found thousands of pounds in notes abandoned and covered in dye.
He called the police who found the Peugeot dumped behind Tolworth Broadway near a former estate agents.
Detectives on the scene say they are treating the raid as an armed robbery and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
Forensics officers are currently going over the vehicle.
Anyone with information should phone Tolworth detectives on 020 7247 7932 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
