Church supports alcohol campaign
A CAMPAIGN to discourage alcohol abuse has been backed by a religious group from Stratford.
Bishop Renato Cardoso, who leads the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God (UCKG), has pledged his support for the Thirst for Life initiative. Those who sign up to the campaign will attempt to go 40 days without drinking, starting on March 1.
Bishop Cardoso said: "The long-term benefit is to help wean people off destructive binge-drinking and drink-driving which all too frequently ruin lives.
"We would encourage everyone, UCKG members or not, to prove for themselves that drinking isn't essential for having fun."
The campaign's website suggests 16 alternatives to drinking, which include bingo, origami, cheese-rolling and racing in office chairs.
Thirst for Life was launched by Christian organisations Hope UK and Share Jesus International. For more information visit www.thirstforlife.org.
