LEYTONSTONE: Picture of murdered man released
    Kevin McFarlane
    Kevin McFarlane

POLICE have released a photograph of the 27-year-old man killed in Stratford on Friday evening.

Kevin McFarlane of Hainault Road, Leytonstone, died after being stabbed in the head.

Mr McFarlane was attacked on Friday evening after he and a friend got into an argument with two other men near a bookmakers in Plaistow Road.

He escaped an initial scuffle, but was followed into a shop where he was attacked again and stabbed in the head and upper body.

The killer, who is described as black, aged between 20 and 30 years, of medium build and about 6ft tall, fled the scene and was seen walking into nearby Geere Road shortly afterwards.

Mr McFarlane was spotted trying to wave down traffic in Plaistow Road and police would like to talk to anyone who saw him.

The attack happened at about 5.10pm on Friday. Mr McFarlane was taken to hospital, and pronounced dead at 6.40am on Sunday.

Police believe he knew his attackers but are keeping an open mind over the motive.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and information.

A post mortem examination is due to take place at East Ham mortuary this afternoon.

An incident room has opened under Acting Det Ch Insp Stewart Hill.

DCI Hill said: "This incident occurred in the evening when people will have been coming home from work, as well as making their way out to socialise.

"I would appeal to anyone that was in the area and may have seen something, or Kevin trying to flag down a car, to come forward and help us find the killer."

Anyone with information is urged to call the incident room on 8345 3715.

If you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
