A great chance to follow in the footsteps of David Beckham

THIRTY teams from across London will take part in a Stratford charity's cup competition.

The competition, organised by Street League, of Gibbins Road, will give disadvantaged young men from homeless hostels and community projects they chance to play at the David Beckham Academy in Greenwich, on Saturday, December 9, from noon to 5pm.

Street League service development manager Gavin Atkins said: "Many of our players come from difficult backgrounds such as homelessness, drug addiction, mental health and abuse.

"The chance for them to play at a great venue like the Beckham Academy is a unique opportunity and we are expecting more people than ever before."

Players will receive goody bags donated by film company Universal and pictures with signed balls and shirts have been provided as prizes by Street League patron and Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva.

The Brazilian said: "I had a difficult time when I was younger back in Brazil. And when I needed help from those around me they were there to support me. Now it's payback time. I hope I can help Street League help more and more people."
