New wards for mental health
WORK has begun on a new in-patient unit at Harperbury Hospital which will save psychiatric patients having to be sent out of Hertfordshire for treatment.
The new building under construction at the mental hospital between London Colney and Radlett, run by Hertfordshire Partnership NHS Trust, will replace outdated facilities at St Albans City Hospital.
MP Anne Main, who joined a turf-cutting ceremony on Friday, said: "It is fantastic that the trust will soon have state-of-the-art building, which will be a great facility for mental health care".
Due to be finished in just over a year, the new building will include special energy-saving features.
County councillor Dave Hewitt, a governor of the trust, said: "The new building will mean that we can treat virtually everybody who needs these services within the county, which is better for them and their families."

Seroulsy, though one form or another of mental helath illness affects nearly one in three in the UK. Also, they are often overlooked by the media and population at large. It should be supported.
