Methodists striding out

TWO Harpenden men are to walk to breadth of Britain to help raise money for a new youth centre.

Members of Harpenden Methodist Church John Bristow and Roy Swanston are planning to walk 192 miles across northern England.

The Coast-to-Coast walk covers three of England's national parks, the Yorkshire Moors, the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District "We are hoping to raise at least £5,000 towards the costs of building and equipping a brand new £300,000 youth centre located alongside Harpenden Methodist Church," said Mr Swanson.

"It will be open to all young people living in and around Harpenden.

"The youth centre is the cornerstone of a comprehensive redevelopment of the premises to improve the community facilities available locally."

The walk starts on Saturday, May 24, in Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire while the finish line is at St Bees, Cumbria. They hope to finish the walk by Sunday, June 8.

"The new youth centre, presently under construction by local builders Jarvis, will be opened at the beginning of December 2008," added Mr Swanson.

Anyone wishing to support their efforts can forward a donation to John Bristow, church treasurer, at Harpenden Methodist Church, High Street, Harpenden.
