Shipping container sports hall opens at Streatham Dunraven Secondary School

Students at a Streatham school enjoyed a basketball lesson in their new sports hall made not from bricks, but recycled steel shipping containers.

Dunraven Secondary School’s hall, which took just three months to build, developed as part of Lambeth Council's Building Schools for the Future project. Some 30 shipping containers were used to create the three-storey structure which includes a full sized basketball court, viewing galleries, and two changing rooms.

Head teacher David Boyle said: "It is inspirational, and provides services to the pupils that have long been needed."

Green features include a rainwater harvesting system, motion sensor controlled lighting, and a weather controlled heating system.
