Sign up against unfair Lee Valley Park tax campaign

A petition has been launched to end an unfair tax on south London councils.

Residents objecting to councils being forced to spend millions of pounds on a north London park can sign the 'No to Lee Valley Regional Park Tax' petition here.

We launched the No to Lee Valley Tax campaign last month, calling for a change in Government legislation that since 1967-68 has required all London councils to contribute funding to the 10,000-acre park based in north London, Hertfordshire and Essex.

This year it will cost Croydon, Sutton, Wandsworth, and Merton councils a total of £1.2m to fund the park, that will also inherit £170m of taxpayer-funded Olympic venues.

The four councils want to use the money saved to fund their own regional park, while other councils have signed up to the campaign who want to repatriate the funds to spend on their own boroughs.

Campaigners have urged residents to help lobby the Government by signing the petition.

The campaign is growing momentum with increased support within the House of Commons after Carshalton and Wallington MP raised the campaign in Parliament.

Ten London councils are now officially signed up to the campaign, including Lewisham, Greenwich, Bromley, Bexley, Lambeth and Kingston.
