A new space has opened for charities and community organisations to meet for free.
John Lewis Kingston created the dedicated community room to allow groups to carry on their work without spending valuable funds on room hire or maintaining space on their own premises.
Jenny Tomley, managing director of John Lewis Kingston, said: “With the current economic climate affecting charities and voluntary groups more than ever, we want to make sure that organisations with a genuine need have access to space at John Lewis.
“When we have the available space in our shops, we should open our doors to charitable organisations which are crying out for the space.
“We’d like our shops to become a place where the community is happy to spend time, for use as a genuine resource.”
The scheme will be run by John Lewis Kingston’s Community Liaison Coordinator Lene Wood, who already works with causes in the local community.
The free resource will be available for events ranging from volunteer recruitment fairs and activity classes to regional meetings and staff training courses.
The room was officially opened by All Saints embroidery club on Wednesday, February 1.
To book the community room phone 0208 547 3000 ext 4584.
