  • "Just a real shame that loads of school children including ours waiting for the queen and at last minute changed route, wasting our time, and not alone all the kids from the local schools, that especially made there own flags for the royal visit, a real let down at most."

Her Majesty the Queen is visiting Mitcham today on what promises to be a historic day for the town.

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh are to host the South London lunch as part of this year's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

They are visiting St Mark's Academy in Acacia Road to host the British-themed lunch, in the presence of the all 13 mayors of south London's boroughs, including Merton's Gilli Lewis-Lavender.

Residents wishing to greet the Queen should line the streets of Cedars Avenue and Tamworth Lane in Mitcham between 11.30 to 12pm and 1.30 to 2pm.

Follow Lauren, who will be covering the Royal visit with regular updates on our Diamond Jubilee news page.
